Stuart Gallant

Stuart Gallant is honored for diligence
in the classroom and on the field ...
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State senior Stuart Gallant has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team. He becomes the fifth different Sonoma State men's soccer player in the last four years to earn the honor.
The All-District VIII team is made up of NCAA Division II and III players as well as players from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and two-year colleges. District VIII comprises schools from Alaska, Hawaii, California, Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and British Columbia. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a starter or key reserve. The award is voted on by district Sports Information Directors. From all of the schools eligible, only 11 players are selected.
Of the 11 players on this year's team, just four are from NCAA Division II.
Gallant, a defender majoring in Communication Studies, has been a starter since coming to Sonoma State as a freshman in 2006. During that 2006 season, he had a career-high five assists and earned All-CCAA Honorable Mention honors. This year, Gallant has scored two goals and has two assists, while serving as an integral part of Sonoma State's top-notch defense. As a unit, the Seawolves have posted six shutouts and allowed just 15 goals in 18 games.
